Announcing Our 2008 Residential Summer Institute
New York and the Making of Modern America
June 23-27, 2008
The TEACHING AMERICAN HISTORY Professional Development Project proudly offers teachers in our participating districts an opportunity to take part in this week-long residential program based in New York City. Integrating recent scholarship and visits to sites important to the development of the United States, this program will help you translate the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework into dynamic classroom activities through an intensive experience with colleagues.
Limited to 24 participants
The program includes:
-
All transportation (we will travel by train)
-
Accommodations in New York (double occupancy)
-
Most Meals
-
Presentations by distinguished scholars and tours of Ellis Island, The Tenement Museum, The New York Historical Society, Brooklyn Bridge the World Trade Center Site
The TEACHING AMERICAN HISTORY Professional Development Project will cover the majority of the costs associated with participation. Teachers completing the experience are also eligible to receive 45 Professional Development Points.
Though we would like every interested educator to be able to participate in this program, we anticipate a demand larger than our 24 available slots. Candidates for inclusion in this summer institute will therefore need to complete a brief application.
Please see the application for more information.
