The Teaching American History Professional Development
Project provides learning opportunities to public-school
teachers in Southeastern Massachusetts. Funded by grants from
the United States Department of Education, the Project runs two separate programs:
"Future History"
Through a mix of lectures, workshops, colloquia, graduate courses and summer institutes, this program expands middle- and high-school history teachers’ knowledge of American history through working with historians, primary documents and technology.
Funded October 2005 through September 2008
"History, Together"
Supporting school-based teams of teachers with graduate study and release time, this program
helps elementary schools align their curriculum to the state framework and integrate American
history learning standard with learning standards in language arts, math and science.
Funded July 2004 through June 2007
These grant programs bridge the gap between the scholarly practice of historians and the day-to-day
teaching of American History by public-school educators.
