     Advice for Health Science Professions

§  Tips for transferring into various health science programs

     Framingham State College

  • Framingham State College will accept BCC’s BIO 233 and 234 as general education science classes but they will not transfer as Anatomy and Physiology I and II. BIO 121 and BIO 239 are recommended by Framingham State College for students interested in any of their health science programs

      Massasoit Community College

  • Students planning to transfer to Massasoit Community College for Radiology should complete the following BCC courses; ENG 101 and 102, BIO 121 (for students without high school biology), BIO 233 and 234, MTH 119, PSY 101 OR SOC 101.

     University of Rhode Island

     UMASS Dartmouth

     Rhode Island College

§  The following courses have been recommended for students interested in the Rhode Island College Nursing program; ENG 101, ENG 102, BIO 233, BIO 234, PSY 101, CHM 115, CHM 116 and a college level math (MTH 119 and 125 or higher). Students will also need to take PSY 230 Developmental Psychology at RIC (or an equivalent course at another institution) before applying for Nursing at RIC. Nursing is highly competitive so only students with a 3.0 GPA or higher will be considered for admission to nursing. RIC accepts transfer students into Nursing for both spring and fall semesters. Criminal Justice Programs

The Quinn Bill was enacted in 1970 by the Massachusetts legislature to encourage police officers in participating municipalities to earn degrees in law enforcement and criminal justice and to provide educational incentives through salary increases. Human Services Programs

     Bridgewater State College

  • Students transferring to Bridgewater State College for Social Work should complete BIO 111 or 121 at BCC.

     Framingham State College

  • Students transferring to Framingham State College for Sociology should complete BCC’s MTH 119 Fundamental Statistics.

 

Business Programs

 

     Salem State College

  • Students transferring from BCC’s Business Transfer Program into a business program at Salem State College should take BUS 251 and 6 credits of foreign language as their program electives at BCC.

      UMASS Amherst

  • Students transferring into UMASS Amherst for any Business or Sport Management majors are required to have a 3.0 GPA for admission. Students transferring into Hospitality and Tourism Management are required to have a 2.7 GPA for admission.

 

Education Programs

 

      Bridgewater State University

  • Transfer students in Early Childhood Education at Bridgewater State University must complete the same major and program requirements as do native students. Depending on the designated major and courses completed as part of the associate’s degree, degree completion may take longer than two years. MassTransfer only guarantees BCC Early Childhood Education students admission into a Liberal Arts major.

 

  • Transfer students in Elementary Education at Bridgewater State University must complete the same major and program requirements as do native students. Depending on the designated major and courses completed as part of the associate’s degree, degree completion may take longer than two years. MassTransfer only guarantees BCC Elementary Education students admission into a Liberal Arts major. A 2.8 GPA and passing score on the first part (CLST portion) of the MTEL are required for admission into the education minor.

  • In addition to the requirements for your Liberal Arts major, Secondary Education students at BSU must complete the courses found here.

      UMASS Dartmouth

  • The Education licensure program is a post-baccalaureate program at UMASS Dartmouth. Students are guaranteed admission to the post-graduate education program at UMASS Dartmouth if they graduate from the BCC Elementary Education program with a 2.75 GPA and a passing score on the first part (CLST portion) of the MTEL. MassTransfer only guarantees admission into a Liberal Arts major for a bachelor’s degree.

 

 

Fine Art Programs

 

      UMASS Amherst

  • UMASS Amherst requires a portfolio/audition for Art, Dance and Music majors. Studio Art majors do NOT need to submitt a portfolio if they met the criteria listed here.

      Westfield State College

Communication Programs

 

      Framingham State College

  • Students transferring to Framingham State College for Communication Arts must have a 2.7 GPA for admission.

 

Engineering and Environmental Science Programs

 

      UMASS Amherst

  • UMASS Amherst requires a minimum 2.7 GPA for Engineering and Environmental Science majors.

 

Liberal Arts

 

      Bridgewater State College

  • Students interested in transferring to Bridgewater State College for Secondary Education should click here for BSC requirements.

§  Students transferring to Roger Williams University for architecture should take CAD 101 and ART 111

 

      Salem State College

  • High School foreign language is not applicable for programs requiring foreign language (most BA programs) at Salem State College.
  • Students transferring to Salem State College should take CIS 110 as their BCC technical literacy requirement.

      UMASS Dartmouth

  • Students transferring to UMASS Dartmouth for a Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies, Economics, English, Foreign Literature and Languages, History, Liberal Arts, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Portuguese, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology/Anthropology, Crime and Justice Studies, or Women’s Studies will need to meet the BA distribution requirements for the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Students transferring to UMASS Dartmouth for a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mathematics, and Medical Laboratory Science will need to meet the BS distribution requirements for the College of Arts and Sciences.

       UMASS Lowell

  • Students completing General Studies, MassTransfer Option at BCC with intent of transferring to UMASS Lowell for a BA should complete MTH 125 as their required Math course. Students transferring into a major with a heavy math or science curriculum should complete MTH 214 or higher.

      All Massachusetts State Colleges and UMASS Campuses

 §   MassTransfer guarantees that any student in the Massachusetts public higher education system who completes the MassTransfer Block will automatically satisfy the general education/distribution/core requirements at any other public higher education institution (with the receiving institution able to add no more than six additional credits or two courses).
