Work Schedule

WORK SCHEDULE

Unit Professional

Employees in this position classification have a work schedule of seven and one-half (7 ½) hours per day excluding lunch and thirty-seven and one-half (37 ½) hours per week. Additional information related to the work schedule can be found in the collective bargaining agreement negotiated between the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC).

Non-Unit Professional

Employees in this position classification have a work schedule of thirty-seven and one-half (37 ½) hours per week excluding lunch. Additional information related to the work schedule can be found in the Non-Unit Professionals Policy Handbook.

Classified (Clerical/AFSCME Unit I)

Employees in this position classification have a work schedule of seven and one-half (7 ½) hours per day excluding lunch and thirty-seven and one-half (37 ½) hours per week. Office hours are as follows:

  • College administrative offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year
  • Enrollment Centers  hours of operation for all locations
  • Student Accounts Office  hours of operation

The length of the meal period may be thirty (30) minutes, forty-five (45) minutes, or one (1) hour in length for clerical employees.

One rest period of no more than fifteen (15) minutes is permitted during each half tour of duty.  During a normal workday, this would mean a rest period ("coffee break") in the morning and one in the afternoon, not to be used to extend the meal period or to permit employees to leave work early.

Classified (Maintenance & Campus Police/AFSCME Unit II)

Employees in this position classification have a work schedule of (8) hours per day excluding meal breaks and forty (40) hours per week. Regular shift hours are:

  • 6:00 am to 2:30 pm OR 7:00 am to 3:30 pm for day shift employees
  • 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm for night shift employees

Some variation may occur in these schedules depending upon the need of the college to provide appropriate services.

For maintenance and operations employees, the meal break is normally one half (1/2) hour.  Variations of this schedule may occur in certain job situations.

Non-Unit Classified

Employees in this position classification perform duties and responsibilities similar to Classified employees. Although these positions are not part of a bargaining unit, salaries and other matters relating to employment and working conditions follow the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement negotiated between the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 93.

Faculty

Employees in this position classification have work schedules that are based on classroom contact hours. Office hours, student advisement, and various other responsibilities are described in the collective bargaining agreement negotiated between the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC).
