BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION CAREER

Lynn Motta ’92 had a baby boy named Brandon James Mello on September 1, 2011. She says he’s a “sweetheart”!

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION TRANSFER

Patience (Moniz) Thomas ’91 has started a new business, Great Cape Baking Company. The company specializes in gourmet breads and donuts cooked on site at farmers markets and festivals, including the Bioneers by the Bay conference in New Bedford in October.

CHILD CARE

Danielle M. Lobo ’94 graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in December, 2011 with her bachelor’s degree. She is employed as a Risk Management Specialist at BankFive.

CULINARY ARTS

Jessica Cartwright Ferreira ’05 graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI in 2008 with a degree in Food Service Management. She held jobs in local restaurants and hotels for a couple of years and then got a job at Dunkin Brands, parent company of Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins, as a Food Safety Specialist. Her job entails assisting restaurants and operators in quality assurance and maintaining food safety. She is part of a cross functional team involving new products and processes. She assists field operations teams with situations related to food safety. She says, “I get to try all new products in innovation, and am surrounded by donuts and ice cream all day, everyday!” She also got married October 29, 2011 to Joshua Ferreira in Taunton, MA at Holy Family Church, and the reception was at Independence Harbor in Assonet, MA.

Sarah Ann Gillis ’05 has opened her own bakery in Costa Rica. After years of working in restaurants in Newport and Providence, Sarah moved to Costa Rica and opened Sarita’s Bakery in Tamarindo in early 2011.

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

Cathleen Mello ’06 started a new job at Bristol Community College in December as the Administrative Assistant for the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

LIBERAL ARTS

Sharon Martin ’70 (Thanatology Certificate ’99) has been accepted into the Faculty Fellowship program sponsored by the Rhode Island Geriatric Center at URI. Sharon will continue her work at Adams House and her role of adjunct instructor at BCC while attending this program.

Karen Sawicki ’03, daughter of Walter Sawicki ’73, married Jake Medeiros on May 7, 2011 in East Freetown. Karen obtained her bachelor’s degree in humanities/social science from UMASS Dartmouth and is the admissions coordinator at New Bedford Health Care Center.

NURSING

Sylvia Goncalo ’86 is working as Lead Medical Aesthetics consultant at Avalon Medical Spa in New Bedford.

Flavia Thornson ’98 has opened Avalon Medical Spa in New Bedford and will serve as Medical Aesthetic Director.

IN MEMORIAM

Edward S. Grace ’08 of South Dartmouth died at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, MD on October 22, 2011. He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard and was serving in Afghanistan until shortly before his death.

Grace A. (Daub) (Motta) Vieira ’92 died at her home in Rochester after a long illness on October 2, 2011. She is survived by her husband and two sons.
