Bristol Community College plans Cake Decorating Show and Competition April 5

Bristol Community College will hold its first annual Dream Cake Competition and Show on Saturday, April 5, from 10 am to 3 pm in the Commonwealth College Center on the Fall River Campus. The theme of this year's show is "Dream Wedding Cakes." It is a fundraiser for the College's SkillsUSA chapter, part of a national organization that supports teachers and students preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.

The show features a demonstration by internationally renowned cake artist and author, Toba Garrett, Master Chef-Instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. She will demonstrate Australian Stringwork. Chef Garrett is the author of Professional Cake Decorating, the first professional cake decorating text book designed to teach all aspects of cake art. She has won more than a dozen international medals for her work.

The Dream Cake Competition allows students, novices, and professionals to compete in design, and the public to visit the show and see the latest in cake design. It is designed for those who are fascinated with the growing interest in high-end cake design. In addition to the showcase of the various levels of competition, the show will feature ongoing demonstrations throughout the day.

Bristol Community College's SkillsUSA chapter is new, but has seen several of its members receive regional and national awards, including a gold medal in last year's national SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children, and includes an entry fee for those wishing to compete. If you wish to compete, contact Chef Gloria Cabral at 508-678-2811, ext. 2940. Contact Chef Cabral for more information and admission.
