BCC Student Senate organizes a giving tree to purchase clothing and toys for children
The holidays will be a little brighter for 150 children of students enrolled in Bristol Community College. The Giving Tree project is a long standing tradition at the College.
Each fall applications are gathered from students of the BCC campuses, who have children up tp 16 years, who are in need of a little assistance to get through the holidays. The BCC Student Senate, along with the Office of Student Engagement, then transfers requests onto beautifully decorated paper ornaments.
The Giving Tree, located in the Commonwealth College Center (G-Building) on the BCC Fall River Campus is decorated with gift tags, and was put up the last week of November. The givng tree will be displayed until December 6. Members of the Student Senate are distributing the ornaments to those stopping who are interested in helping the program.
In their first week, the BCC Student Senate were able to distribute a large number of ornaments, as well as raise funds for the project by selling Lindt chocolates. A contest is also being held where for one dollar, participants can take a guess at how many chocolates were packed into the jar. The individual who guesses the closest without going over will win the jar of chocolates. The winner will be notified on Monday, December 9.
