BCC Dental Hygiene Club 5k on May 19
For the students at Bristol Community College, halitosis has got them on the run. On Sunday, May 19, the BCC Dental Hygiene Club will host their first annual 5k Run/Walk Fundraiser.
Starting at Beacon Light Tavern at the head of the Fall River Industrial Park, participants will run, walk, jog, or even stroll their way to the finish line. “It is so important to us to have the community involved in this program,” said dental hygiene student and organizer Gina Maniscalco. The BCC Dental Hygiene Club hopes for 300 runners to champion the cause of caring for the pearly whites.
The event will be professionally timed, with a $150 prize for first place, and additional prizes for the top finishers in different categories. The registration fee is $25, and all participants will receive a t-shirt as well as a coupon for a complimentary beverage at the Beacon Light Tavern.
Donations will help cover the costs continuing education for the BCC Dental Hygiene students for events and dentistry workshops. “We feel that it’s our duty to learn as much as we possibly can about Dental Hygiene care,” said Maniscalco. “We want to share our knowledge passions with our community.” The Club will also donate a portion of each registration fee toward oral cancer research.
The event will begin at 10am on Sunday, May 19th, with registration closing at 9:30 a.m that morning. The starting location is the Beacon Light Tavern, located on 320 Airport Road in Fall River.
Runners/walkers can find the event’s registration page on Active.com by searching “BCC”, and selecting “1st Annual BCC Dental Hygiene Club 5K Run/Walk.” Participants can register online or in person the day of the event.
