Security plans for Commencement 2013, June 1
As we plan for Commencement at Bristol Community College, the safety and security of all our guests are of the upmost importance to us. The College hopes to make this a memorable event for all, while maintaining a safe atmosphere for everybody both in and outside of the Commencement tent. To ensure safety and continued enjoyment of the event, we are implementing four changes to increase security in line with best practices across the nation:
Increased, visible security presence
Commencement attendees should expect to see a sizeable security presence. While our campus police are always on hand for commencement and other large events, we will enhance this presence to improve traffic and crowd management and to increase the comfort level for graduates and their guests.
Access to the stage
For the safety of all our guests, no audience member will be allowed to approach the stage to take photographs. Please tell your families and friends that they must remain out of the aisles and away from the stage during the ceremony.
Road closure onto campus
Please note that the main entrance road will close at 10:45 a.m. beyond the Hudnall Administration Building. All vehicles will be directed to the parking lots along Elsbree Street on the south side of campus. There is plenty of parking available in these lots.
Restriction on bags, backpacks, laptops, etc.
All items brought onto the Bristol Community College Fall River campus the day of Commencement are subject to inspection. The following items are prohibited and should be left at home or in your car:
- Bags (including gift bags)
- Wrapped presents
- Airhorns and noisemakers
- Laser pointers or similar items
- Balloons, beach balls
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take the steps necessary to ensure a safe, enjoyable and memorable celebration. We look forward to sharing this very special day with you.
