Loans

The Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP) is the most common source of education loan funds.

The loans programs that BCC participates in are:

Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford (FFELP)
Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
Alternative Loans

To be considered for a student loan you need to complete the financial aid application process.  A BCC financial aid award decision will be sent to you once your financial aid application is complete.  A financial aid application is not needed for parent loans or alternative loans.

If your BCC financial aid award letter does not include a loan offer and you still want to borrow, complete the Loan Request Form and send it to the BCC Financial Aid Office.

All loan funds must be repaid by you. Read the entrance interview and promissory notes carefully. In certain limited cases, you can request to postpone or cancel the repayment of this debt.

If your BCC financial aid award letter includes an offer of a Federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford loan, there are two steps you need to follow:

1. Accept the loan.
You need to be admitted to a degree program before you are allowed to access this account.  Read these instructions in full before entering accessBCC.

  • Enter your User Name found at the bottom of your BCC Financial Aid Award Letter
  • Enter your password
  • Click OK
    • Your accessBCC Account has important information related to your BCC enrollment
    • Click the School Services tab
    • Click Student and Financial Aid
    • Click Financial Aid
    • Click My Award Information
    • Click Accept Award Offer by Aid Year
    • Select the academic aid year and Accept or Decline your loan.  You can accept a lower loan amount by entering the dollar amount in the box to the right of the award.

2. Complete the entrance interview and promissory note.

Within two weeks of accepting your Stafford loan, you will receive a notice to complete the entrance interview and promissory note with the loan processor OpenNet/Sallie Mae.

You will need to set up an account with OpenNet.
• If you have used OpenNet previously, simply enter your user ID and password.
• Note:  Your accessBCC user name and password are not the same as your OpenNet account.

When completing the promissory note on OpenNet, you’ll be asked to select a lender.  BCC lists several preferred lenders; these lenders are “preferred” because their loan processing complements the BCC process.  You don’t need to select one of these lenders but be aware that if you select another lender – in particular, a lender that processes paper applications or paper checks rather than electronic forms or electronic funds transfer – your loan payment will be delayed.  A loan application with a non-preferred lender will receive the same attention as an application with a preferred lender but expect the process to take longer.  BCC does not receive any inducements from preferred lenders.

Visit the SallieMae site to complete the Promissory Note (and entrance interview).  The link may take a few seconds to load.

If you’ve already completed the promissory note and need to complete only the entrance interview.

If you do not have access to the web and are awarded a Stafford Loan, contact the BCC Financial Aid Office.
