Access to Archival Databases (AAD)
This site is maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and provides online access to a selection of nearly 50 million historic electronic records created by more than 20 federal agencies on a wide range of topics. Records on African American history, Chinese immigration, ethnic history, genealogy and family history, military records, Native Americans, photographs, pictures and much more are included in these databases. ALA offers professional services and publications to members and nonmembers, including online news stories from American Libraries and analysis of crucial issues. Berkeley Digital Library SunSITEThis site contains collections on classical, medieval, Renaissance, and 19th-century literature, world history, Japanese woodprints, genetics, and aerial photography, to name just a few. Includes an image finder that will search through the entire site and beyond to find specific images. Boston Public Library (BPL)Access to the holdings of the Boston Public Library and its 25 branches is available at this site. Also, if you are a resident of Massachusetts, you can get a library card at the main library at Copley Square or any of its branches and be able to borrow books and access numerous electronic databases for journal, magazine and newspaper articles. You may also ask one of the reference librarians here at the LRC about accessing these electronic databases. Being a member of SEMLS (Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Library System), the LRC has a BPL library card number which can be used to access their remote accessible databases. The BPL offers approximately 82 of these databases in many varied subject areas for use here at the LRC or at home with your own BPL library card number. Directory of Open Access Journals"This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. We aim to cover all subjects and languages. There are now 2340 journals in the directory. Currently 674 journals are searchable at article level." Massachusetts Library Information Network (MLIN)Maintained by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, this government site has more than 50 library catalogs showing books and other materials of more than 400 Massachusetts libraries. Library materials held by most public libraries and by approximately 30 academic libraries are to be found in the online catalogs of the nine large automated resource sharing networks. Some of the reference databases that BCC has are available here as well and can be accessed using your BCC or SAILS library card. Home of the Virtual Catalog. Massachusetts Trial Court Law LibrariesState and Federal laws and legal information from the seventeen public law libraries located across Massachusetts. Links to laws, regulations, and cases are available for Mass., other states, and foreign and international law. The site provides for online book searches, information on Massachusetts’ courts and government, finding a lawyer, online legal reference service, and information on law by subject. Includes access to numerous legal forms. National Security ArchiveAn independent non-governmental research institute and library located at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The Archive collects and publishes declassified documents acquired through the Freedom of Information Act. Although parts of this website require a paid subscription, the Archives’ Electronic Briefing Books are free to access and contain a wealth of information and documents on numerous historical events. They are searchable by keyword(s). NetLibraryNetLibrary provides access to over 7,000 electronic books on popular topics such as travel, computers, consumer health, business, literature, and more. At BCC you can access this site directly. At home, access is available through the Massachusetts Library Information Network (MLIN) or the Boston Public Library using your BCC or SAILS library card. Project Bartleby: the Public Library of the InternetIncludes collections of 19th- and early 20th-century literature, including works of Dickinson, Keats, Melville, Shelley, Whitman, Wilde, and Wordsworth. Also has an extensive poetry archive of works dating from 1250 to 1920. The site is searchable. SAILS Library NetworkAccess the library holdings of over 60 public and academic libraries in southeastern Massachusetts using your BCC or SAILS public library card barcode number and pin number (last 4 digits of telephone number). If the SAILS network does not have the item you are looking for, you can then go to the Virtual Catalog, made up of other library networks in Massachusetts, the UMass libraries, and several other academic Massachusetts libraries. Holds can be placed at the Virtual Catalog as well. SAILS additionally provides access to online reference databases, including NetLibrary.
