Contagion: Historical Views of Diseases and Epidemics

Created with support from Arcadia, the new Contagion collection brings carefully selected historical materials from Harvard's renowned libraries, special collections, and archives to Internet users everywhere. The collection, which includes more than 500,000 pages of digitized books, serials, pamphlets, incunabula, and manuscripts, contributes to the understanding of the global, social-history and public-policy implications of disease and offers important historical perspectives on the science and the public policy of epidemiology today.

Familydoctor.org

is the American Academy of Family Physician's consumer health website.  The site's table of contents includes health topics, healthy living, drug information, self-care, a directory of family physicians on the web, herbal and alternative remedies, and a medical dictionary.  The site also features sections dedicated to the health of men, women, seniors, teens, and children.  The site is available in English and Spanish.

Intelihealth.com

provides a wealth of health care information written in everyday language.  The site includes sections on topics such as diseases and conditions, complimentary and alternative medicine, and workplace health.  "More than 150 top health care organizations contribute to InteliHealth's content, including the National Institutes of Health, other government agencies, major non-profits, other publishers and news media."

MayoClinic

offers a broad range of medical information.  The site's contents include an A-Z listing of diseases and conditions, condition centers, healthy living centers, drug information, first aid and self-care, and answers from Mayo Clinic.

MedlinePlus

has information on over 500 diseases and conditions.  It links to web sites that are reviewed and selected by National Library of Medicine staff for their content and reliability. Medline Plus includes links to resources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, statistics, and more.

Merck Manual (2nd Home Edition)

provides detailed information on a vast number of disorders that affect human health.   Its monographs often include information defining the disorders, and the related symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.  The Manual is published by the pharmaceutical company Merck & Co., Inc.

is designed to help patients understand surgical procedures.  The site explains the process from the disorder through recovery.
