Presents images and database information for over 7,000 advertisements mainly from U.S. newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955.  Concentration is on five main subject areas: Radio, Television, Transportation, Beauty and Hygiene, and World War II, categories chosen for their high research interest and reflection of major developments in American society, culture, business, and technology.  Images are from an advertising collection at Duke University.

"Ad Track is a weekly look at how much consumers like a major advertising campaign compared with other ads rated by this poll and how effective they think the ads are in helping to sell the product."  The polls are available from 1999-present and conducted jointly by USA TODAY and Harris Interactive. Provides advertising and marketing industry data, including over 600 ranked charts arranged in four major categories:  marketers/advertisers, media, advertising agencies, and salary surveys.

An interactive tool that can be used by students and professionals to help them create high quality marketing campaigns and advertising concepts.  They provide a vast library of how-to advice reflecting current strategies in branding, positioning, Web site creation and hundreds of other topics.  There are creative games, brainstorming techniques, and the IdeaMachine --  a collection of interactive tools to create imaginative concepts and persuasive campaigns.

AdFlip:  The World’s Largest Archive of Classic Print Ads

Although a fee is required to gain full access to all the ads at the site, guest status provides access to a sizable number from the 1940's to the present.  As a guest you can view the "Today's 10," "What's Hot," search by keyword, category, decade, or specific year.

Advertising Age

Presents broad weekly coverage of news about the advertising business in the United States. Includes information on industry and the economy, salary surveys, top 100 national advertisers, and agency financial rankings.

American Marketing Association

Provides information on services, publications, conferences, and access to marketing information, such as their "Best Practices" which gives information on many issues and trends in marketing.  Also has a career and job center at this site.


A magazine for marketing strategists, B to B covers numerous areas of advertising and marketing, including net marketing. Users can consult the web price index and get an estimate of how much it costs to build a web site, and view a list of web developers who work in major cities.

E-Commerce and Web Marketing

Major source for key information about doing business on the Net.  Thousands of on-line articles about effective Web marketing and links to resources on e-commerce and Web marketing.

Emergence of Advertising in America:  1850-1920

Presents over 9,000 images, with database information, relating to the early history of advertising in the United States.  Coverage is divided into eleven categories and represent advertising in a variety of formats, such as on calendars, almanacs, postcards, flyers, sides of buildings, fences, and much more. This collection is from Duke University and compliments the Ad*Access website, which covers a later time period.
