How to place a hold in the online catalog
Text Instructions

The on-line catalog is an electronic listing of all books and audiovisual materials available at Bristol Community College's (BCC) Learning Resources Center (LRC), as well as at 60 other member libraries in Southeastern Massachusetts.

As a patron of the LRC, you have access to the online catalog even when your not on campus.  Just go to the LRC's homepage at, click on the link entitled "Online catalog", located in the right-hand frame.

Once in the online catalog, you can search for materials and place "holds" on the item(s) you want.  Placing a hold allows you to request an item from another library in the Southeastern  Automated Integrated Libraries (SAILS) network, or to request an item checked out by another patron.  You can do this 24 hours a day from the comfort of your home!

Placing a hold allows you to request material, and have the item(s) delivered to BCC or another SAILS library convenient for you.  If the item(s) you requested is currently checked out, you will be placed on a waiting list.

Follow these instructions to place a hold on an item

1)  When you find the item you wish to order, click on
located to the left of the displayed record.

2) Click on the "hold" icon. Place Hold

3) Enter your user id (i.e. your library card number) and your PIN (usually the last four digits of your phone number)

4) Choose the location where you would like to pick-up the item.  The default is Bristol Community College, but you can choose another location if it is more convenient for you.

On average, it takes 2 to 3 working days for an item placed on hold to be delivered to the LRC from a SAILS library.  If an item is checked-out to another patron, your request will be put on a waiting list.  As a result, the length of time it will take to receive the item will vary based on the number of people ahead of you in the queue.  LRC staff will call you when your item(s) are available.
