Early College Placement Tests
Another benefit of the Career/Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) Linkages Program is free early college placement testing. Bristol Community College currently uses the Accuplacer test to assess new students.
All students entering a degree or certificate program at BCC are required to take placement tests in order to ensure appropriate placement in classes. These tests assess the student’s skill level in reading, writing, and mathematics. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with academic background information, are used by college advisors to help students choose courses prior to registration. By taking the placement tests early, high school students eligible for the CVTE Linkages Program have the opportunity to take a free refresher course if needed and prepare early for a smooth transition to college.
We recommend that CVTE students take the test in their Junior year so that any refresher courses may be taken prior to enrolling as a Freshman at BCC. This strategy will increase a student’s chance of entering right into credit-bearing courses in college, increase the likelihood of graduating on time, keep the cost of a college education down and statistically increase the probability of completing a degree or certificate program.
Bristol Community College provides placement testing through the Testing Center. Contact them at 508.678.2811, x.2231 for more information.
Some high schools also offer testing on site. See your guidance counselor for more information.
